Lessons: The Home of Joy Farm's lesson program is suited for beginner and experienced riders alike. Whether you are new to the sport, have a child who loves horses, or are an experienced rider, the Home of Joy Farm lesson program is for you! Each student will receive instruction tailored to their individual needs and goals. We welcome riders of all ages from 5 to 105. We want every rider's experience at the Home of Joy to be safe, fun and enjoyable.

To help our riders progress, we encourage the Home of Joy students to ride in at least one lesson per week, preferably scheduled at the same day and time each week. Our large indoor arena allows lessons to continue year round regardless of the weather and is easily viewed from our heated and air conditioned loft space or viewing room.

We offer private, semi private and also our "Parent and Me" lessons aimed at our youngest equestrians. We stress safety first and foremost in a FUN and nurturing environment. All riders must have long pants, appropriate boots with a small heel and wear an ASTM approved helmet (we provide or you may bring your own). Helmets are expected to be worn at all times while in contact with a horse. All waivers and liability forms must be signed prior to contact with horse.

Lesson horses at the Home of Joy are lovingly cared for, receive routine vet care, are up to date on all vaccines , receive regular top notch farrier service and chiropractic care. Our lessons are informative and fun...low stress; lots of smiling and laughter is required! We invite you to meet our staff and schedule a tour today-call Arianna at 740-974-0759 to schedule a lesson!

Arianna Mathias joined Home of Joy Farm in March of 2012 as a Barn Manager and started the Home of Joy lesson program in Summer of 2013.

Bio: My riding career began when I was 11. One horse, one girl, one trail ride and the rest is history. I was hooked. So when people ask “Did you grow up in a barn?” I can honestly say “YES!”. My life long experience ranges from Open Shows in both English and Western,Showmanship. Dressage, Hunters, Jumpers and Eventing. I was a member of the United States Pony Club and progressed through the ranks. I was also member of the Sweet Briar Intercollegiate Equestrian Team and competed in HUS, Equitation and Jumpers. I have been fortunate to ride with some of the top US riders in my career. I have attended and ridden in clinics with Karen and David O’Connor, Jimmy Wofford, Dorothy Crowell, Diana Rich, and Lucinda Green. I completed a season internship as a working student at the European Warmblood Stallion Zentrum and assisted in the breeding, classical riding and training process of young stock from some of the top European bloodlines under the direction of Ulrich Frei. I discovered my passion for instruction 20 years ago through Pony Club. I have taught beginner through Intermediate lessons privately, at riding academies throughout the Eastern United States, and also was a instructor for the Ohio University PE program. Safety is paramount when I teach. I also strongly believe in a soft working relationship between you and your horse. A relationship built on trust and understanding. I also believe in a well rounded rider who excels both in the saddle and has a good working knowledge of horse care and stable management (blame the Pony Club roots!). My teaching philosophy is simple...break down the training process into steps that both you and your horse understand. Eliminate fear and confusion and allow the partnership of rider and horse to evolve. Lessons available on your horse or HOJF. I also accept horses for training and conditioning.
